Trauma is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Pre-hospital care of people who have been injured is therefore essential in order to decrease preventable morbidity and mortality, regardless of how simple or sophisticated a pre-hospital trauma care system might be.

Whenever and wherever possible, existing clinics, hospitals, and health services should be utilized to ensure efficient mobilization of health-care resources. Currently, pre-hospital care in Viet Nam is limited in both quality and coverage, with fewer than 10% of victims receiving first aid on site.
