Health financing is one of the building blocks of a national health system. Health-financing systems mobilize and allocate money, within the health system, to meet the current health needs of the population (individual and collective) with a view to expected future needs.

It is essential for countries to build a health financing system that ensures that all people can access quality health services when needed while being protected against the financial hardship associated with illness.
