Ministry of Health and development partners adopt Viet Nam Health Partnership Document
HANOI, 10 December 2013 - On Tuesday 10 December 2013, the Ministry of Health and its development partners adopted the Viet Nam Health Partnership Document (VHPD).
Over the past year, the Health Partnership Group (HPG), led by the Ministry of Health’s International Cooperation Department, developed the VHPD in a spirit of mutual accountability and through a broadly inclusive and collaborative process. It builds on the successes and lessons learned from the Statement of Intent (SOI) signed in 2009, and draws upon national and international frameworks, agreements, policies, strategies and plans that shape health development cooperation in the country.
As Viet Nam works to sustain the important health gains it has made over the past decade, and to tackle a new set of complex challenges, the endorsement and symbolic signing of this document is an important milestone for the HPG. It will ensure that partner contributions are more closely aligned to national priorities, and harmonized, thereby reducing duplication and fragmentation of these efforts.
The VHPD clearly articulates the Ministry of Health and development partners’ commitments to supporting the Ministry of Health in setting and leading the implementation of national health priorities, as well as Viet Nam’s international commitments linked the Busan Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation (BPD), and the International Health Partnership (IHP+) Global Compact. The document provides a basis for stronger cooperation to meet the future challenges of Viet Nam.
