Health sector development
The Health Systems Development (HSD) Programme works to strengthen the existing health system in Viet Nam to effectively and equitably deal with challenges induced by rapid socioeconomic, demographic and epidemiological changes. The HSD programme supports the Government in the development and institutionalization of a National Health Account System as a tool for monitoring and formulation of health financing policies; capacity building for research and evidence-based policy-making.
The programmes’ activities build the capacity of local and central staff on health financial planning and management, within the context of decentralization; advocating for equitable and sustainable health financing approaches. At the policy and legislative level the HSD programme helps to develop regulation, frameworks and systems aimed at ensuring quality and safety of health professionals, services, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. WHO Viet Nam also supports the integration of human rights principles and gender equality in health in preventing and addressing domestic violence and building capacity to understand, evaluate and monitor the impact on the health sector of international trade agreements.
