HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections
The HIV/AIDS Programme supports the scale-up of antiretroviral treatment (ART) and strengthening health systems to provide quality comprehensive care and treatment including integration with HIV prevention, tuberculosis (TB) and reproductive health services. Prevention activities focus primarily on harm reduction for people who inject drugs, commercial sex workers and men who have sex with men and include needle and syringe programmes, methadone substitution therapy and condom promotion. In partnership with UNAIDS, WHO Viet Nam is piloting Treatment 2,0, a global initiative that is being successfully implemented in country. Human rights of the key affected populations is being another relevant topic in the WHO agenda.
