2nd Informal Consultation on Development of WHO Standard Terminology in Traditional Medicine
Place: Tokyo, Japan
Date: 27 Jun, 2005 - 29 Jun, 2005
In 1991, the Regional Office published a revised edition of "Standard Acupuncture Nomenclature Part 1", which includes the standard nomenclature for 361 points of the 14 meridians. An "International Standard Terminology in Acupuncture for Basic Training" will be published next year by WHO Headquarters.
Given the need to standardize general traditional medicine (TM) terminology, the Regional Office convened the 1st Informal Consultation on Development of Standard Terminology on Traditional Medicine, held in Beijing, China in October 2004. Materials and references were selected and working procedures were laid out and the usages of IST were identified. During this 2nd Informal Consultation, the experts will discuss the principles of selecting standard terminology and its English translation.
