Medical devices

A medical device is any instrument, apparatus, machine or implant used to prevent, diagnose, treat, monitor or alleviate disease or injury and which does not achieve its primary intended action by pharmacological, immunological or metabolic means.

WHO seeks to support its member states in the development and oversight of systems to ensure equitable access to, and evidence-based selection, management and use of affordable, safe, quality assured, essential and other medical devices.
