Disease outbreaks

Outbreaks of emerging infectious diseases, such as SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome), avian influenza and H1N1 pandemic influenza, have caused considerable suffering and economic losses in Asia in recent years. At the same time, outbreaks of known diseases such as dengue, cholera, typhoid fever and leptospirosis also continue to pose a threat. Early detection and reporting of such events is crucial in minimizing their negative social and economic impact.
