Strategic Plan to Stop TB
in the Western Pacific 2006

Substantial progress in TB control has been achieved in the last few years, with crucial impetus provided through the Stop TB Special Project in the Western Pacific Region. The Region has gained momentum over the last six years towards the goal of reducing TB prevalence and mortality by one half by 2010. The data for 2005 is expected to show that intermediate control targets of detecting 70% of estimated cases, successfully treating 85% of estimated cases and reaching 100% of population with DOTS access have already been achieved.

The Strategic Plan to Stop TB in the Western Pacific
2006–2010
is a roadmap for the Region in taking bolder action during the next 5 years to address these areas of concern. Besides strategies to address these areas, specific desired results and measures of progress are also clearly laid out in the Strategic Plan. The Plan will guide countries and areas in further developing and implementing their 5-year national TB control plans. The implementation of this Strategic Plan for 2006–2010 and the new national 5-year TB control plans will be crucial in achieving a major victory against TB in 2010, and in bringing the Region closer to the vision of a TB-free world.
