Health financing and social protection

Activities

  • Macrohealth is a simulation tool of the fiscal space available for the health sector, given the state of the conomy and public finance.  It is applicable to all countries, regardless of how a country's health system is financed and organised.  Its principal use is to assess the amount of funds at the macro-level that are likely to be available for health from various sources over a 10 year period. • The health financing country profiles provide summary information about the health financing situation in countries for the WHO Western Pacific Region. Health expenditure trends from 1997-2007 are presented (based on national health accounts data), along with a description of the major health financing events in each country. Selected references are also provided for readers who require more detailed information. The country profiles were motivated by the recent Health Financing Strategy for the Asia Pacific Region (2010-2015), in which one of the key strategic areas is to improve the monitoring and evaluation of health financing policy changes.
