Closing Remarks by Dr Shin Young-soo, WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific, at the Asia-Pacific Leadership and Policy Dialogue for Women’s and Children’s Health

Manila, Philippines
9 November 2012

Colleagues, ladies and gentlemen:

We now come to the end of two very intensive days of work.

I understand that there have been good presentations and very lively discussions.

More importantly, I believe this event has strengthened our solidarity as a community that cares about every woman and every child.

There is always great excitement during high level meetings like this.

The challenge is to inspire others with this excitement when we return to our countries.

There is a lot of work that needs to be done as a follow-up to this meeting.

I sincerely hope that you have been energized by the people, the ideas and our collective recommitment to our promise to achieve MDGs 4 and 5.

Ladies and gentlemen.

We know what the problems are.

We have heard about solutions, good practices and innovations.

We have explored new ideas of closing the gaps in financing.

I believe we are now ready to take bold and unwavering action to make our vision, a reality.

I thank all the Ministers for their inspiring work and for sharing their precious time for this event.

I thank all the participants from civil society and the NGOs who continue to make sure that we are on track.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the partners for making this event possible.

WHO WPRO reiterates its strong support and commitment to the work of the Partnership.

We have opened our doors for you.

Let us know how we can continue to serve the Member States through the Partnership.

Thank you and have a safe journey home.
