Noncommunicable diseases

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers and chronic respiratory diseases are leading global causes of death, causing more deaths than all other causes combined.

NCDs and poverty create a vicious cycle whereby poverty exposes people to behaviour risk factors for NCDs, and, in turn, the resulting NCDs may become an important driver of poverty due to the direct and indirect costs of NCDs.
