Amid the growing concerns about the delays in achieving the Millennium Developmnet Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5, WHO technical cooperation supported the DOH’s through the development of the urgently needed EINC Package, or what is known as “Unang Yakap” (First Embrace) .

Through the DOH- UN’s Joint Programme on Maternal and Neonatal Health(JPMNH) which was generously funded by AusAID, EINC was successfully established in 11 training hospitals with a target of 4,000 health professionals.

Dr Anthony Calibo, Medical Specialist , Family Health Office, DOH-NCDPC and Dr Jacqueline Kitong, WHO Technical Officer for Maternal, Child and Nutrition gave an insight on EINC in a presentation . Dr Calibo also explained about the features of the EINC SIM and how this can be used as a learning tool. The program ended with an Expression of Interest and commitment by the partners to the utilization of the SIMs for education, training and service delivery in all levels of the health structure/facilities, in the medical and health institutions and in the international health community.
