WHO and DOH strengthen ties with CCS signing

The Department of Health and the World Health Organization signed the WHO Country Cooperation Strategy aimed at significantly improving the health of Filipinos.

WHO Regional Director for Western Pacific, Dr Shin Young-soo and Secretary of Health Enrique T. Ona led the signing ceremony and witnessed by WHO Country Representative Dr Soe Nyunt-U and OIC-Undersecretary Gerardo Bayugo.

In a joint message, Dr Shin and Sec. Ona said the CCS 2011-2016 echoes a common goal by the Government and WHO to achieve good quality health care for all Filipinos.

Based on the CCS 2011-2016, WHO Western Pacific Region's support to the Philippines will focus on the following priorities:

  • Strengthen health systems to provide equitable access to quality health care with special focus on the Millennium Development Goals and priority non-communicable diseases;
  • Enable individuals, families and communities to better manage their health; and
  • Improve the resiliency of national and local institutions against health security risks.
