Public health emergency preparedness
The Health Emergency Management Staff (HEMS) of DOH lead this focus area, with the following accomplishments:
- Health emergency preparedness, response and recovery plans are available in all offices of the Center for Health Development and DOH hospitals, and in some LGUs.
- With WHO assistance, the DOH Bureau of Quarantine for points of entry has developed the Ninoy Aquino International public health contingency plan.
- The Infectious Disease Office of the National Center for Disease Prevention and Control of the DOH finalized and updated the national pandemic preparedness plan, which included other emerging infectious diseases.
- WHO supported the updating and development of clinical management guidelines for dengue. This was based on new WHO guidelines, which included prevention and control of leptospirosis, anthrax, meningococcemia and Japanese encephalitis.
