Injury and Violence Prevention
In the Philippines, accidents, of all types including road traffic crashes, rank fourth among the causes of death in all ages. Next to assault, road traffic crashes are the second leading cause of injury death for all ages. Among 0 to 17 year old children, road traffic crash is also the second leading cause of injury deaths, next to drowning.
Road traffic injury
About 7,000 Filipinos die each year, and thousands more are injured or disabled, due to road traffic crashes. Riders of motorcycles and two-wheeler bicycles make up a large proportion of these statistics. Injuries to the head and neck are often the main cause of death, severe injury and disability.
