Health workforce

A well-performing health workforce is responsive, fair and efficient in achieving the best health outcomes possible, given available resources and situations.

WHO supports countries to undertake health workforce planning by:

  • strengthening national health workforce planning capabilities, and thereby facilitate attainment of appropriate staffing levels and health workers skill-mix;
  • developing and reviewing national health and human resource management policies, plans and guidelines; and
  • providing technical cooperation and guidelines for HRH legislation.
