Health sector development
The role of WHO country office
The Country Office works with the Department of Health, local government units and other sectors as it seeks to help improve the Philippine’s health systems’ performance. It aims to improve national and local capacity to diagnose health systems constraints as well as in policy analysis and management.
WHO also seeks to promote broader engagement of various sectors in health sector policy processes and strategies. Without strong policies and leadership, health systems do not spontaneously provide balanced responses to these challenges, nor do they make the most efficient use of their resources.
Health system strengthening building blocks
Health systems strengthening is defined as improving the six health system building blocks of service delivery; health workforce; health information; medical products, vaccines and technologies; health financing; as well as leadership and governance. Furthermore, it also manages their interactions in ways that achieve more equitable and sustained improvements across health services and health outcomes.
