Water Safety: a Must for the Philippines

Water is essential for life. Without water, life will come to a standstill. Aside from adequate amounts, water should be free from dangerous bacteria and chemicals so as to be safe for drinking.

The water safety plan (WSP), according to WHO, is the most effective means of maintaining a safe supply of drinking water for the citizenry. The plan analyzes the risks of contamination, from the water source to the consumer. At any given point of risk, appropriate control measures are then put in place.

WHO introduced the WSP concept, with AusAID support

In 2006, the World Health Organization (WHO) introduced this concept in the Philippines, with support from the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). Its concept was included in the 2007 Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water.
