Climate change and health in the Philippines

The Philippines experienced natural disasters enough to place it among the countries that are most vulnerable to the negative effects of climate change. Latest empirical studies indicated changes in the climate of the country, in terms of temperature increases and occurrences of extreme rainfall and heat. The total cost of extreme events related to climate change is high, around 2% of the country’s GDP. Likewise, climate change is associated with the country’s difficulty in achieving MDGs.

Guided by the World Health Assembly Resolution of 2008, and the regional framework for action to protect human health from the effects of climate change in the Asia-Pacific Region, WHO Philippines partnered with the Philippines’ Department of Health to respond to the challenges of climate change.
