Dengue is an infectious tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. It is transmitted through the bite of an infected female Aedes mosquito. Anyone can be infected with dengue regardless of age, sex or socio-economic status.
There are four types of dengue viruses and a person can get infected with dengue up to four times. Infection with one type leads to immunity to that type but subsequent infections with other types of the virus can lead to severe complications.
