Anthrax

Anthrax is a bacterial disease caused by Bacillus anthracis. It primarily affects herbivorous mammals, although other mammals and some birds have been known to contract it. The major sources of human anthrax infection are direct or indirect contact with infected animals, or occupational exposure to be infected or contaminated animal products. The incidence of the natural disease in humans is dependent on the level of exposure to affected animals and, for any one country, national incidence data for non-industrial cases reflect the national livestock.

In Mongolia, human anthrax cases had known in Mongolia since 1956 but the diseases was officaly registered since 1964. The number of anthrax cases registered have been increasing since 1996. More areas have been identified with the endemicity of animal anthrax.
