WPRO unveils new website

News release

The WHO Western Pacific Regional Office today launched its new and improved website at: www.wpro.who.int.

The website is designed to be more functional and attractive, offering greater ease of navigation and overall user-friendliness. The new design will more easily accommodate the range of multimedia formats – such as videos, podcasts, webcasts, graphics and photographs.

"Good and effective communications are critical to the fulfilment of WHO's essential public health mission and its ability to reach our key audiences," says Dr Shin Young-soo, WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific. "This new website will enhance WHO's ability to serve the health needs of people and governments."

The website is patterned after the website of WHO headquarters at: www.who.int. Key features include increased interoperability, which is especially important during disasters, disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies when demand for information surges.

The website also features new and updated fact sheets and health topic pages with a regional focus.

"Disseminating vital information is a fundamental part of WHO's mandate to help people achieve the highest possible level of health. The best way that we can accomplish this is through this marvellously redesigned website," Dr Shin says.

"This launch is only the start. Many more changes and improvements will come over time. The new site is a solid platform for change."
