Publication date: July 2011
Globally, there are 350 000 000 people with chronic hepatitis B infection, and half of them are in the WHO Western Pacific Region. In 2005, the countries and areas of the Region agreed to reduce infection prevalence in children to less than 2% by 2012 as milestone, and to less than 1% as a goal. Strong vaccination programs have led to great successes in reducing chronic hepatitis B infection in children.
