WHO worked with the Ministry of Health to develop an early-warning surveillance system to identify concerning diseases and unusual disease patterns. Early identification of disease outbreaks assures early implementation of prevention activities, thereby minimizing the size of the outbreak and number of people affected. This is even more important in the post-disaster setting when many families have lost everything and are more vulnerable.
