World Health Organization Western Pacific Region

Sixty-third session of the Regional Committee

For the first time in its 63 years, the Regional Committee addressed violence and injuries, which account for 1.2 million deaths per year in the Western Pacific. Host country Viet Nam received particular praise for its successful new law requiring the use of helmets on motorcycles and other two-wheeled vehicles. The delegates passed a resolution asking the Regional Director to support the Member States in their efforts to strengthen or develop plans for the prevention of violence and injuries.
