We must always stand guard

In 1997, a Cambodian girl named Chanthy became the last indigenous polio case in the Western Pacific Region. Confirmation of the Region's polio-free status in 2012 was a proud achievement. But we must not be complacent. Says WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific
Dr Shin Young-soo: “Continuing to keep the Region polio-free will require sustained commitment, cooperation and funding. The price that we and future generations have to pay is too high if we stop our efforts now. The journey continues as we reach out to every last child.”
