Celebrating a polio-free Western Pacific Region

In November 2012, the Regional Commission for the Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication in the Western Pacific Region confirmed that the Region remained free of polio, a status that it had held since 2000. The Western Pacific Region was the second of the six WHO regions to eradicate polio and is one of only three to have attained that status. In October 2010, WHO hosted representatives of national certification committees and partner agencies at its Regional Office for the Western Pacific in Manila to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Region's being polio-free.
