The hand that wields the needle
The person responsible for administering and recording the vaccination must be clearly established. In PGH, a nurse or midwife is designated for this key role during each shift. This way, babies can be vaccinated around the clock, at any time, soon after they are born. The PGH staff has put together a portable vaccination kit so that the responsible nurse or midwife can easily carry the vaccine around. This allows vaccination without separating the newborn from his/her mother.
