Prevention of HIV sexual transmission among sex workers and their clients

Many of the new HIV infections in the Asia Pacific region are related to unprotected paid sex. While promoting condom use remains the core strategy for preventing HIV and other STIs among sex workers, basic and affordable sexual and reproductive health services should be made available to sex workers to address a host of other issues.

Such services include voluntary HIV counselling and testing, STI diagnosis and treatment, cervical cancer prevention, prevention of parent-to-child transmission, contraception counselling, abortion and post-abortion care, and transgender specialized health service.
