World Health Organization Regional Office for the Western Pacific

Health promotion

Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. In the Western Pacific Region, health promotion is guided by the principle: "Making healthy choices easy, early, exciting, everywhere". The Regional Framework for Health Promotion 2002-2005 sets out strategic directions for the promotion of health. The core areas of action have focused on capacity-building: health promotion leadership, health promotion infrastructure and financing, strategic partnerships for education, strategic partnerships for governance, health communication and health promotion effectiveness.
