Western Pacific Regional Strategy for Health Systems Based on the Values of Primary Health Care
In 2010 the Western Pacific Regional Strategy for Health Systems Based on the Values of Primary Health Care was endorsed by WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacific. This milestone event gives a framework for countries to:
- Develop national plans and strengthen links with operational planning
- Monitor and review the health sector
- Coordinate health with other policies
- Develop service delivery models
- Support health sector reforms
- Engage in national policy dialogue
The Regional Strategy outlines in one relatively simple document all the changes needed. It underlines the need for national policy makers to be clearly aware of their goals and values thus putting them in the best position to make the right decisions on contentious issues such as the optimum health care financing model, the role of the private sector and managing competing demands for human resources.
