Expert Consultation on the Review of the Implementation of Health Systems Strategies
Place: Manila, Philippines
Date: 6-8 June 2012
The Division of Health Sector Development in the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific, in consultation with Member States, has produced a number of regional strategies related to health systems. All the strategies have the overall goal to "improve universal coverage". The strategies are linked and cover the most important areas of health system development. All extend to 2015–– the deadline for Millennium Development Goals. A review is planned to examine collective implementation of all the strategies and related Regional Committee resolutions.
The review will take an overall health system and primary health care perspective. The consultation will obtain objective expert and guidance on the overall approach and detailed methodology for the review. Results are anticipated to be reported to Member States at the sixty-fourth session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacific to be held in 2013. In addition, the review will inform WHO's future work in health systems development in the Western Pacific Region.
The objectives of this meeting are:
- to agree on the terms of reference of the steering group for the period of the review;
- to finalize the purpose, overall approach, detailed methodology and timeline for the integrated review of health system strategies; and
- to ensure that the approach contributes to guiding WHO's future work on health system strengthening in the Western Pacific Region.
