Training of Trainers on Quality Assurance/Improvement and Patient Safety

Background information
The World Health Organization Regional Office for the Western Pacific proposes to support the Institute for Health Systems Research (IHSR), a WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Systems Research and Quality Improvement, to convene a Training of Trainers Workshop in Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement and Patient Safety from 23 to 27 May 2011 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
IHSR has developed training modules on measuring and managing quality to support the Quality Assurance Programme (QAP) in the Ministry of Health. These training modules look at different perspectives, firstly in promoting quality, secondly in implementing quality, thirdly in managing quality and lastly in monitoring quality. It is proposed as well to include patient safety principles in the workshop.
Objectives
The objectives of the training workshop are:
(1) to introduce the principles of QA/QI and patient safety and its benefits to health care;
(2) to provide knowledge and selected skills in the process of managing and implementing QA/QI and Patient Safety activities;
(3) to provide knowledge and selected skills in designing quality assurance and performance measures; and
(4) to provide knowledge and selected skills in evaluating performance and outcomes of patient safety and QA/QI initiatives and programmes.
The workshop will have some emphasis on recognizing the management practice for successful Patient Safety and QA/QI towards a national framework and policy.
