This report describes trends in scientific production in the Western Pacific Region (WPR) from 1992 to 2006, with focus on the first 10 years. More than 3.5 million bibliographic references in Thomson ISI Web of Science were analysed to find out trends in health research output in the WPR countries and in the different WHO Regions, to look at collaboration beween countries in health research, and to examine the visibility of health rersearch publications in the region. In the period 1992-2006 the Western Pacific Region was the fastest growing region in health research. The five largest producers of research were Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea.
