Review of the Strategy on Health Care Financing in the Western Pacific Region

The Regional Strategy on Health Care Financing 2006-2010 was endorsed by the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific in 2005. WHO carried out a mid-term review of the implementation of the Strategy from July to September 2008. The findings of the review are being used to update the Strategy for 2010-2015. The focus is on supporting countries in moving towards universal access to quality health services through strengthened health system financing. The draft mid‑term review and updating of the health care financing strategy for 2010‑2015 will be discussed during a technical consultation of health financing experts to be held in Manila from 25 to 26 March 2009. It is expected that the mid-term review and updated health care financing strategy will be presented to the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific in September 2009. The review will also contribute to a regional strategy for strengthening health systems which will be discussed during a high level meeting in 2010.
At the end of the meeting, the participants will have:
(1) discussed the findings of the mid-term review and the update of health care financing strategy for 2010-2015; and
(2) provided recommendations to finalize the draft strategy, before presenting it formally to the Regional Committee Meeting in 2009. [pdf]
