Summary

An Agreement for Performance of Work was contracted with Mr Peter Feldman for the performance of activities with assessing water supply improvements in cholera-affected communities in Ratanakiri and Stung Treng provinces. The terms of reference are: 1) visit selected communities in Ratanakiri and Stung Treng provinces as part of the WHO effort to improve health conditions in the cholera-affected region; 2) assess hydrologic conditions in these communities and identify option for improving bacteriological quality of drinking water in the near term; 3) work closely with the Ministry of Health, other District and Provincial officials and NGO representatives as needed to accomplish his task; and 4) prepare a report which summarizes the findings of the reconnaissance mission and which recommends a plan of action for supporting the Government of Cambodia to improve bacteriological drinking water quality in affected areas.This mission was undertaken to assist WHO-Cambodia to determine what type of water supply and related community development activities would be appropriate to support with the purpose of preventing or mitigating future cholera outbreaks in Ratanakiri Province.
