Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality Dissemination, Water Safety Plans (APW Report)
Summary
An Agreement for the Performance of Work (APW) was contracted with Water Futures Pty Ltd to develop training materials on drinking water quality and water safety plans. The terms of reference are to: 1) develop tailored English-language workshop materials for Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality (GDWQ) Workshops; 2) develop tailored English-language presentation materials for Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality workshops; 3) develop tailored English-language workshop materials for Water Safety Plan (WSP) workshops; 4) develop tailored English-language presentation materials for Water Safety Plan workshops; 5) apply workshop and presentation materials in five workshops in China and prepare report on key presentation materials or for improving future workshops; and 6) submit technical and financial reports. The objectives of the training were to provide practical training and advice to Chinese water sector professionals to help them improve water safety as well as to help WHO identify improvement opportunities for the rolling revision process of the GDWQ and its supporting training material. The GDWQ Dissemination Training Workshops involved lectures describing each GDWQ chapter followed by a question and answer session to explain the concepts in more detail. By the end of the two-day workshop, a summary of the discussions was captured along with a shortlist of key issues of interest to the WHO rolling revision process. The WSP Training Workshops involved an active learning process. Firstly, brief presentations were given to explain each concept, supported upfront by an overview of a completed WSP from the International Water Association (IWA) for Accra, Ghana. After a presentation on each concept, the workshop participants identified and captured an interpretation of that concept for their chosen case study water supply system. By the end of the three-day workshop, an illustrative example of the beginnings of a WSP had been created.
