Proposed Water Quality Legislation for Lao People's Democratic Republic (APW Report)
Summary
An Agreement for the Performance of Work (APW) was contracted with Mr Marcus Polowski to prepare a draft environmental health legislation and national drinking water quality standards strategy and action plan of Lao People's Democratic Republic. The terms of reference are to: 1) review reports and recommendatioins made by previous WHO and other water quality legislation-related consultants; 2) review the existing water and drinking water legislation and regulation regime in Lao People's Democratic Republic; 3) consult with water sector focal points in Lao People's Democratic Republic from the urban and rural sub-sectors, and including both water resources and water supply sub-sectors; 4) conduct a minimum one-day consultation or "roundtable" meeting with key sector players and representatives to gather inputs and raise awareness of the need for practical national drinking water standards and regulations; 5) propose a national drinking water quality standards strategy and action plan; 6) provide recommendations to the Government of Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Ministry of Health in particular as to how national legislation and regulations can finally be implemented.
