The WSP implementation programme was launched during February and March 2006 with training being given in Lao PDR, Viet Nam and the Philippines. The objectives of WSP implementation are to assess risks to the provision of safe drinking water and to implement management practices that reliably control significant risks, thus reducing waterborne disease and controlling an important transmission pathway. The objectives of the mission were to review the progress achieved by Hai Duong Water Supply Company, Viet Nam and Champasak WASA, Lao PDR, towards WSP implementation and to provide technical advice and information to resolve issues. The mission involved visiting these two water supply organizations, reviewing documents and holding discussions with water supply company employees. The review was in depth, particularly when assessing the technical rigor of critical aspects of WSPs.
