Western Pacific Region Hepatitis B control goals
The following links provide an update on progress towards the regional targets and key background materials on hepatitis B control.
The Western Pacific Region has led the way in hepatitis B control as the first Region to establish a time-bound goal to reduce childhood chronic infection rates. All countries unanimously adopted a regional goal and milestone during the fifty-sixth session of the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific.
Specifically, the goal is to reduce the prevalence of hepatitis B infection to less than 1% among children at least 5 years of age; the target year to meet this goal is yet to be established. A milestone to reduce prevalence to less than 2% is set for 2012.
