In May 1953, Singapore was assigned to the Western Pacific Region at the Sixth World Health Assembly ''without prejudice to any questions regarding sovereignty'' as an Area. Although Singapore was technically a member of WHO while at the same time belonging to the Federation of Malaysia, it withdrew from the Federation on 9 August 1965 to become an independent sovereign state and on 25 February 1966, Singapore joined WHO in its own right...
