The Philippines, one of the WHO founders, joined WHO on 9 July 1948.
On 1 June 1951, the Philippine Government and the World Health Organization signed a Host Agreement for the establishment of the Regional Office in Manila.
The WHO Representative Office was established in January 1973 but the WHo Representative post was vacant until 1981.
