Singapore is a small country with a total land area of 697.1 square kilometres.  The total population is about 4.2 million, with a resident population of 3.44 million in 2003.  Singapore has a relatively young population, with only 7.7% of the resident population above 65 years of age.  However, the percentage of population over 60 years is projected to increase to 27% by the year 2030.
