New WHO tobacco control campaign – “Thank you for not smoking”

WHO China jointly with Beijing Tobacco Control Association and Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, launched a new social media campaign to show appreciation to the public for their effort of making Beijing smoke-free, and in support of the enforcement of Beijing Smoking Control Ordinance.

The campaign is titled “Thank You for Not Smoking”, a sub-campaign under the #RUFree campaign launched earlier in the year. It includes cardboard cutouts featuring several Beijingers of different occupations, and high profile Chinese celebrities voicing their appreciation to the strong smoke-free law and its enforcement.

The featured people include:

  • Ms Liu Jing, TV anchor
  • Mr Xue Xiaole, security guard
  • Ms Zheng Juan, waitress
  • Ms Yan Cuicui, pregnant mother
  • Zhou Bubi, student
  • Ms Wang Wei, nurse
  • Ms Dong Xuan, train attendant
  • Ms Wang Lixin, bus/subway station guide
  • Mr Huang Lei, teacher, actor
  • Mr Meng Fei, TV anchor
  • Ms Zhang Liangying, singer
  • Mr Ren Quan, actor

WHO Representative in China, Dr Bernhard Schwartländer is also featured in the campaign.
