WHO Representative
Dr Michael O'Leary, WHO Representative in China.
Dr Michael O'Leary has worked for WHO since 1990 in Asia and the Pacific Islands, and since 2009, as WHO Representative in China.
He trained in internal medicine at the University of Minnesota and the University of Hawaii in the USA, and also obtained a Masters degree in Public Health. He further trained in epidemiology at US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and worked for the US Public Health Service for 23 years.
His experience includes programme planning, development, and implementation in more than 10 countries, in vaccine preventable diseases, HIV, tuberculosis, dengue, and other infectious diseases, communicable disease surveillance and response, training of health care workers, establishment of intercountry epidemiology networks, and policy development and strategic planning across a range of public health issues.
Before coming to China he served as WHO Representative in Cambodia.
