Dr LIU Yunguo, MD, MPH, WHO Representative to Cambodia
Dr LIU Yunguo was appointed WHO Representative to Cambodia and took up his post in Phnom Penh on 31 August 2016.
Prior to this assignment, Dr Liu was WHO Representative to the South Pacific, Director of Pacific Technical Support, based in Suva, Fiji from March 2014. His responsibilities included coordinating WHO support for 21 Pacific island countries and areas. From March 2011 to February 2014, he was WHO Representative to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. Before this, Dr Liu was Medical Officer and Team Leader for Maternal and Child Health in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic from January 2010, and Regional Advisor for Reproductive Health at the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific from April 2008.
Before joining WHO, Dr Liu held senior positions in the Ministry of Health in his home country, China. These positions included Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Loan Office from 1998 to 2008, and Deputy Division Chief, Maternal and Child Health Department from 1988 to 1993.
Dr Liu received his Master of Public Health from the University of California at Berkley in 1994, and a Diploma in Primary Health Care and Field Epidemiology from Uppsala University of Sweden in 1990. He was awarded a Doctor of Medicine from Tongji Medical University in 1988 and received a Master of Science in 1985 and a Bachelor of Medicine in 1982 from Wuhan Medical College of China.
