Korea Joins as the Newest Member of the APO Board

Dr Shin Young-soo, WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific, joins members at the APO Board Meeting

The Ministry of Health and Welfare, Republic of Korea, joined the Asia Pacific Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (APO) as a member on 10 July 2014.

The APO officially welcomed Korea at its Board Meeting held on 12 and 13 July 2014 at the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office in Manila. Dr. Yoon Seok-jun, Executive Director, Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service (HIRA) Health Institute represented Korea at the APO Board Meeting. The meeting deliberated on the findings of the external evaluation and issues relating to APO’s strategic direction.

As an APO Executive Board member, Korea will be able to provide guidance on strategic direction of the Observatory, monitoring the implementation of its work plan, and the quality of its products.

With Korea’s entry, membership on the APO’s Board has expanded to 11 members. Other members of the APO Executive Board are the Asian Development Bank, Bangladesh, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia (DFAT), Hong Kong SAR, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, World Bank and the World Health Organization (South East Asia and Western Pacific Regional Office).
