Health Systems in Asia 2013

The Asia Pacific Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (APO) was a member of the organizing committee and a co-sponsor of the 2nd Health Systems in Asia conference which took place 13-16 December 2013 at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. The APO held a sub-plenary panel to discuss preliminary findings from country case studies on Public Hospital Governance. The session involved national researchers from seven countries (Sri Lanka, Philippines, New Zealand, Indonesia, Viet Nam, Thailand, and India), and was moderated by the APO Director, Dr Dale Huntington. Changes in the governance of hospitals, management and financing practices are occurring in most countries in the Asia and Pacific region. The pace of reforms is ahead of the evidence on their effectiveness in improving quality, efficiency and patient responsiveness. The comparative country case studies supported by the APO will be the first broad-scale analysis of hospital reform in the region.
